The Mac Songs of Songs

I’ve got some hott tipps on new artworks by Phoenix, AZ based artist The Mac. The Mac is responsible for one of the more popular Barack Obama images that came out in the 2008 presidential election season, one of the “Hope” images (also pictured below.) The TIPPS I have now today are on three new screen prints from The Mac: and “Song of Songs” – which is the August subscriber cover of Juxtapoz magazine!

We are dropping this amazing print artist The Mac. “Songs of Songs” is a 7 color hand pulled serigraph that is in a very limited edition of 50 pieces. Printed on black Stonehenge 310 gsm 100% cotton archival deckled edge paper sized at a massive 30×40 inches. We will be dropping this print to coincide with his solo show on August 6th at Fifty24SF. The online release will be on Friday, August 7th, 2009 at 12 p.m. PST. The first 20 of these will be $250 and going up in price. Act fast and get this stunning image which is currently the subscriber cover of Juxtapoz Magazine. – PaperWorks Lab

Then there’s that square red and black print with the two people:

IXTACCIHUATL print // Limited edition of only 75 prints. Signed, titled and numbered. three color screenprint on archival paper. Total size of paper is 30×30 inches, printed area is a little over 24×24″ Printed by Self Help Graphics with SHG chop in lower left

This is a new print just finished by the legendary Self Help Graphics printshop in East LA. This is the nicest & biggest print I’ve done so far and it’s an honor to have had it produced by such an important and respected printshop as SHG. The printer, Joe Alpuche did a perfect job. The title is “Ixtaccihuatl” (basically pronounced “ee.stok.SEE.wot”) which is the name of a large mountain in Mexico said to resemble a sleeping woman. The myth behind this has inspired countless popular Mexican/Chicano paintings, drawings, calendars, murals, tattoos, merchandise, etc portraying an Azteca warrior cradling his dead lover. This is my sincere take on this traditional theme using my brushwork style.

And finally the red lady with the white shirt:

TONALLI print // $200 + $10 shipping/handling -SOLD OUT-
Limited edition of only 43 prints. Signed and numbered. Five color screenprint on 100% cotton, acid-free print paper. Total size of paper is 22×30 inches, printed area is 19×26″

“Tonalli” is a Nahuatl word for the soul, that could be more accurately described as energy derived from the sun. The symbol on the necklace is an Azteca symbol for sunshine. I was trying to convey the feeling you sometimes find in the southwest desert when the sun is setting and is filtered through the dirt in the air, creating a hazy golden glow.
