They’re watching. They are. From all directions. Nature is watching you and human-made nature is watching you too. There’s spirits in every little thing, and everything is holding you accountable. Designer / artist Ashley O’Brien had a trip to a beach in Crete and found a fabulous set of faces in the dirt. In the sand, the eyes and mouths of the spirits can be found. It’s a kind of person with a furious thirst and appetite for symbols, marks, and design. Do not eat the little rocks. Leave them to the land.

Twenty photos below, each of them a face in a stone. Some of them are fat, some of them are skinny, some of them are really hard to see, but that makes them all the more heartwarming. Strange. Full of life.

Stony Faces — A selection of stones with faces found whilst strolling along the beach in Crete 2008 with my girlfriend Rachel. — Some faces are harder to see than others and some are much grumpier but each stone has a face.
