Hoozay! Artist / designer / illustrator Michael Fleming, hereon referred to by his artist name Tweedlebop, has completed his alphabet of strange and/or little used Star Wars characters. What makes this one unique is the use of the “Aurebesh” alphabet, a Star Wars specific alphabet that was originally used in the original SW trilogy randomly, developed in 1994 by RPG (Role Playing Game) designer Stephen Crane at West End Games in the book “Star Wars Miniatures Battles Companion (1994).” It was later used in the prequel movies, then edited into the original trilogy in the Special Edition releases, all according to the rules Stephen Crane created. Cool! And now Tweedlebop is using the letters correctly as well, in two ways on each card!

NOTE: at this point, or perhaps at a point somepoint in the point past, you may have wondered if I or we here at WFDJ will ever stop posting Star Wars material as it pertains to lovely design. And the answer is no. Never. Ever. Ever. The Star Wars universe is so rich, ever-expanding, and inspiring to people who have the skills that it’s going to be a resource basically forever. And I love it.

Now each card here has several elements. First there’s the Aurebesh letter, corresponding in each case with a letter from our real-world modern English, Latin-based alphabet. Each letter is shown stylized in a sort of sassy manner, the word then written out in Aurebesh, followed by English.

Then of course there’s the illustrations, which are just fantabulously cute and amazing.

As far as I can tell, Tweedlebop started creating this alphabet in 2007, the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars movie’s release, and finished sometime in the past 12 months. You’ll notice a 2009 copyright sort of mark on most of them.

To contact Tweedlebop, aka Michael Fleming, shoot an email on over to tweedlebop@gmail.com, or visit him at his http://tweedlebop.com/ webpage portfolio, or his http://tweedlebop.bigcartel.com/ shop, or his http://www.flickr.com/photos/tweedlebopper/ Flickr.

BONUS: If you’ll take a look at the end of the gallery down there, you’ll see a high-quality patch that was sent to Tweedlebop by Dustin Dial, a member of the 501st Dune Sea Garrison. Incase you didn’t know, the 501st as a whole is a group of stormtrooper-clad fans that are FUCKING SERIOUS about their Star Wars fanhood. They dress up in full gear and go to all sorts of events for charity and for an amazing amount of fun. Anyway this patch was made for the Dune Sea’s CO, and it says “BOBA DIED SCREAMING.” Fantastic!

These designs would be right at home in a John Korty version of Star Wars. They look just like Twice Upon a Time!
