Let me begin here by apologizing to you for not showing this artist earlier. Mike Brodie aka the “Polaroid Kidd” is a photographer who’s ushered his work into the houses of hundreds of patrons, photos, ironically enough in this sentence, of the homeless. Not homeless necessarily by necessity, but more likely and more often than not by choice. These photos are taken by Brodie and of his friends and associates. All along the road and all along the railroad tracks. All the way from Florida to California to Minneapolis and back again.

Now this collection, above and down there in the gallery, are from lots of different shows. I’ve done my best here to collect every image Brodie’s captured and allowed up on these internets. As far as I can tell, the last show he’s been in was in 2007, that being a group show with Chris Stain and Swoon. And he’s not the most internet-centric sort of fellow if you know what I mean, so don’t expect any online portfolio site coming soon.

The best link I can give you that might get you closest to him is Needles and Pens gallery in San Francisco. They’ve had a show of his before and I bet they’ll know how to find him.

Maybe.

NOTE: in 2006 there was a book published of Brodie’s works called “Tones of Dirt and Bone”, check out a lookthrough of it at fecalface – a couple photos of the book are also below because they were of pics that I couldn’t find anywhere else.

ALSO NOTE: In this first foul swoop I’ve gotten 119 photos. If you’ve got any more you’d like to share or know of another place that has any photos by Brodie that aren’t in the gallery here, leave a comment or send a mail!

Now enjoy the heck out of these photos. They’re in rare form.

[...] Mike Brodie aka the “Polaroid Kidd” is a photographer. He has taken hundreds of shots of his friends and family who live in and around the railways in the US. Basically gypsies US style. Beautiful characters, amazing compositions and colours, these shots almost look too good to be a harsh reality. [...]
