OMFG Sea Monkeys! A re-design of such an inane and wonderful product like the living-strange, the eternally mysterious, the original Sea Monkeys, well that’s maybe the best job of all! Who doesn’t love their antics? You don’t? You must be a total jerk! What! Sea Monkeys! Look at all the sides of this box!

SEA MONKEYS RE-DESIGN

When redesigning the packaging for Sea Monkeys, I chose to focus on the fact that they are indeed brine shrimp and not fanciful cartoon characters as depicted on the original packaging. I also integrated text from the original Sea Monkey ads such as “So eager to please, they obey your commands like a school of tiny Dolphins!”

Design-o-festo:

To me, the beauty of design is that it can take inspiration from any person, place, or thing, and evolve into a piece that is accessible and speaks to anyone regardless of their background. I try to take aspects not only from all forms of art, but all aspects of life and show these in my work. My most dominant vehicles have been print and motion graphics, while I am currently refining my web skills. Some reoccuring elements in my work are elements of photography, music, humor, and human psychology. I am excited about my design growing with me as I expect my interests, influences, and surroundings to be ever changing. As always, I can be reached at jpalm@mcad.edu.
