Where new design goes to blossom and lost design goes to live again.

I’ve got to say this wasn’t my favorite discovery, finding the illustrator behind this lovely picture of a bike you see above. Because he kicked the bucket, not a few weeks ago. That’s some stuff! But he did get a lot of work done. His name is Nick Dewar and he’s a grade-A illustrator if I do say so myself. Look below for a gallery of his works.

For serious. Now get your eyeballs out! This is fabulousness!

Most of them are painted, some of them are digital. I dare you to figure out which is which (basically they look exactly the same, Dewar was quite adept at both.) Pay careful attention to the separations; what a giant great bit of lovely prints they’d make. They DO make. If you look hard enough, you can still find prints by Dewar, mostly giclee in nature.

It’s a fun hunt!

Listen to this fab quick descrip from Dewar by Dewar:

Born in Scotland, grew up in a small fishing town on the East Coast and attended Art School in Glasgow, lived in Prague, London, New York and on a sheep farm in Cumbria. After living in New York for nearly ten years I have recently moved to Southern California. I no longer have to bathe in my kitchen.

A fun-lovin guy. Dewar did work for so many clients it will make your retinas bleed: The Atlantic Monthly, Bloomberg Personal, Elle DÈcor, Forbes, GQ, Harpers Bazaar, Martha Stewart Living, The National Post, The New York Times, Suddeutsche Zeitung Magazine, Newsweek, Playboy, Time, The Wall St. Journal, The Daily Express, The Guardian UK, Mother Jones, How, Prism, The New Republic, The New Scientist, The Observer UK, The Scotland on Sunday, Abercrombie and Fitch, Ann Taylor, Citibank, Sun Bank, Deloitte and Touche, Lands End, Neiman Marcus, New York Magazine, Harry Rosen, Armstrong, UPS, Bloomsbury, Little Brown, Macmillan, Penguin, Random House, Viking and Vintage. Holy crap that’s not even the whole list. I suppose this sort of thing happens when one makes such iconic-yet-weildable work.

He also won roomfulls of awards, accolades, and attaboys. He lived a prolific life many’d be fortunate to come close to in terms of bulk and especially quality. All ye illustrators! Prove your valor and tatoo his name on your forhead! Or just give him a high five by looking through his works.

*NOTE: thanks to Marina Córdova Alvéstegui for the directions to this amazing illustrator. It was a sad moment when we found out he was gone, but a great moment when we found that his works were numerous.
