Some lovely and strange prints from the inky hands of Megan Frau. This is part of a self-portrait series, bird head and all. Megan Frau is producing fantastic prints and illustrations now at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and is reaching for that all-powerful MFA in printmaking (aka Print-Paper-Book.)

From Megan Frau’s most recent post:

I’ll post in the next day or so (probably Wednesday) on the book project so far. I don’t know how much I’ll work on the book for the rest of graduate school, but this is the new work that is likely to evolve for the following year. The top piece was the last piece finished, the ones below were the experiments/studies that built up to it. [The "top one" is the most "drawn" image, the others are more photographic.]

I’m going to try and draw/print bigger over the summer and fall. The figures/portraits will probably go in the direction of the last etching that I posted, where the figure is more hidden under a surreal hat of sorts. Nothing is definite however, so I guess I’ll just keep track of the progression as it follows during the summer months.

Go go gadget MFA!

Megan Frau

I’m on the road to earning my MFA at art school with my emphasis in Print, Paper, and Book. I love printmaking, mix-media, book-making, digital work, and occasionally collage. I blame this mostly on boredom, but usually tell others I like to experiment instead (Teachers tend to respect that more than the boredom response). My goals for the next two years are to push my limits on what I can do with scale, layering of media, strengthening my use of narrative, and being able to communicate this all to my audience in presentations and in written form. This blog will follow that progression. Process is a very important aspect to my art, so I like to invite others to see the stages my work takes from start to finish.

Input is always welcome, so don’t be afraid to drop a line!

Another magnificently simple and effective usage of the blog format in this, the first annual MCAD Portfolio Week!
