A lovely green and off-white project which has the potential to produce a poster. Designer Sami Foust speaks thusly, “A small folded book I created for class. Reverse side folds out into a small poster. Text inspired by Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius by Jorge Luis Borges.” What a splendid project from a bona-fide Minneapolis printstress. For further Foust, visit http://samifoust.com/ or her graphics and printmaking sharing blog Babies of Knowledge. For pics and inspiration for this project, continue below.
The quote above reads: “Visual Geometry is the surface not the point. It disregards lines and is not tactile or solid. Visual Movement modifies the form, therefore, the shape is not absolute.” Below is a passage from the text by Jorge Luis Borges used as inspiration for this revelation. It be 2.5″x2.5″ size-wise.
*I’m reminded of a project by the also-talented Kevin Wade Shaw, from whom the words “every project has the potential to produce a poster” are drawn – this project is also pictured below. Search “Kevin Wade Shaw” for more posts in the future.
A bit of Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius by Jorge Luis Borges:
Tlön’s geometry is made up of two somewhat different disciplines – one visual, the other tactile. The latter, which is equivalent to our geometry, is held to be subordinate to the former. The basis of visual geometry is the surface, not the point. This geometry has no idea of parallel lines and holds that a moving man modifies the forms that surround him.
