A day or so ago from now, I and half a million other people from the internet saw a moving image, a gif, of the dog you see above this text right now. He was on reddit. It was wild. He is basically stepping forward with his hands and feet, in a very awkward, direct set of motions. The image got about a billion hits. Millions of people have seen that image and keekled at it. Little giggles for a small element, so direct, so wild, that it was not only seen by millions, it was also shared by them. This is the essence of the modern internets.

Below you will see the source material for that dog.

As you can see by watching the video above, the dog is in fact a dog, yes, one that walks around and promotes a sort of snack for Japanese children. In the video, even though it is short, is a collection of wild incidents that is just. too. much. If this commercial were shown in the United States, it would only be at home during one several-hour-long segment of television: The Superbowl. And even then it would be laid to rest amongst the other “what did I just see” segments that promoted… whatever it was… Because of the inability of the viewer to connect to the actions.

HOWEVER! As you can surmise given the evidence of the dog walking on its own, without the rest of the commercial, the bits themselves are gold. So! If you’ve filmed a commercial with a dog in it, take just a 5 second segment and use that as the commercial, placing a photo of the object you want to sell before and after the clip.

It’ll work, I’m telling you!
