Double-Think designs burn the web’s retina at techno roots

There’s a bit of a hardcore artwork movement going on that’s been hitting the graphic design addicts of this planet for the past several years. Even before the techno dance revolution hit the pop radio spectrum, there was a really hard collection of colors out there beating up people’s eyeballs. If you were looking at the beginning of Tumblr, you saw this madness – here you’ve got a bit of artwork from a designer / artist by the name of Dobbeldenk.

Doppeldenkgesternheutemorgen!!!

The manifesto of this person, unnamed, aka Doppeldenk™, is as follows: Continue reading »

Pharrell and Terry Richardson and Aeronautics and a Watch

Oh so you don’t know who Pharrell Williams is? You LIAR! He’s a dude. For basically a billion years now he’s been producing music with his pals in Star Trek, they all make music in the band N.E.R.D., and they all bump up the brands BAPE, Billionaire Boys Club, and Ice Cream shoes. Two of those three are owned by them, or at least Pharrell, and the third happens because Pharrell’s got a sweet deal with Nigo. It continues now! He’s got a new watch, N.E.R.D. is playing some music at an air base, and Terry Richardson took some flash photos of Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco. I know you love these things. Continue reading »

Angry Birds Graffiti by Cheo

Well would you look at that? I guess I never really considered it – Angry Birds graffiti. There’s been about 20 cakes to be shown off by lucky kids whose parents are very much into them having interest in anything, even if it’s a bird game, there’s been a bunch of official stuff like shirts and plush dolls, but I think this is the very first bit of Angry Birds graffiti we’ve seen. Have a peek at it here, or hit the gallery thumbnail to see it extra large.

Tasty Offsets in Pink and Gray

Hey! Let’s take a look at some prints! Each of these prints is done by designer and illustrator Lisa Grue. They’re part of a new series called “Where’s Alice?” and each is a lithograph made with care using original paintings (done by Grue) as a source. Fabulous amalgamations of well adjusted shapes and letters! Take a glance at the set of three then buy them all up. So fancy! Also see Grue dressed as a rabbit in the gallery below. You know you can’t resist such a thing.

Buff Monster Dissembled

Hooray for a color-seperation of the works of the ever-pink Buff Monster. Margot Harrington of Colour Lovers has interviewed the hawked one about his seemingly nonstop flow of the color Buff Monster insists is the most metal of colors. I met Buff Monster a few years ago when he was on a Metropark tour. I brought him more than one item to do a doodle on and he was totally gracious to do it. What a neat dude. Continue reading »

And Foods

There can never be too many projects dealing with the most epic of logograms: the ampersand. This project, “Ampersand Food Groups,” is an illustration epic comprised of seven images living on the bones of the mark. Each of these pictures displays a love between two foods, two foods such as wine & cheese, spaghetti & meatballs, and peanut butter & jelly. The concept is hot, the illustrations are fantastic, the colors are amazing, and the presentation is super super super. Continue reading »

MST3K: The Missing Piece

Although I’m sure there are many… pieces… missing from MST3K – pieces of brain matter, sensicality, other bits of film and metal, this is the piece we’ve got. What’s going on right here is the collected POSTERS from the movies watched and spoken on by the MST3K robots and dude. The films this crew watched ranged many years, through the 50′s, 60′s, 70′s, etcetera, through graphic design terror and genius. Turns out the posters for the movies they featured on this show have QUITE a range and, now that the internet is around, are totally sitting around all over the place. And now they’re all here.

A big fat gallery of posters from the MST3K movies. Here. Now. Instantly. Continue reading »

Skating Through The Bubbles

With the greatest of ease. Actually they’re balloons, of course, and they represent the bubbles found within the candybar that goes by the name “Aero.” It’s a Nestlé Chocolate sort of bar, last I checked, and it tastes pretty alright. This commercial is amazing. It’s more than a commercial, it’s an exercise in glorious graphic activation and collection. Setting up the pins and knocking them down. Really, for real. The skateboarder in these images (and video) is the fabulous Bob Burnquist, a man I became familiar with a few years ago when the greatest game of all time came out: Tony Hawk Pro Skater. He’s part of a special family of those involved. But that’s got nothing to do with this, does it? Yes of course it does! All fate flows according to the will of the great magnet. You’d better believe it! Continue reading »

Put Instrument on Head

It puts the lotion on the skin? No. Put shoe on head? Yes. The following is a set of selections from graphic design group Akatre‘s photo project “Mains d’Œuvres” – Series pictures for annual communication. They take these photos, yes, then they print them up and mail them out as “mailers” – communication papers to their former and current clients, friends, and maybe even family. This is not only a perfect example of taking the basics of one’s life to an extraordinary level, it’s also just the sort of pie anyone could make to fly over the pages of the entire internet overnight. Marvel VS Disney – the Lost Connection and Conclusion

Surely you’ve heard of the merger that took place a bunch of months ago, the one where Disney corporation purchased Marvel Comics for 4 billion bucks. People cried, people laughed, people put mouse ears on every one of the Marvel Comics superheroes. But what about TRON? Who weeps for the forgotten combo? The best combo. The combo that just can’t happen, but definitely should because it’d be so light bright. I’m speaking of course of TRON meets Iron Man. Yes yes, how pretty the posters would be. Continue reading »

Ren and Stimpy Hit Stussy

So Stussy, international streetwear brand and pioneer, all that neat crap, have begun a collaboration with MTV owned Ren and Stimpy brand. It’s a singular t-shirt, one of two they’ve made – one came out last year, you’ll find that at the top of the gallery below in black and white. See the story on 6.21.10 at Stussy Japan. Now I love that they’ve got their eyeballs on something I hold so near and dear to my heart, but in my grand opinion, they approached the wrong group. MTV owns the rights to most of the Ren and Stimpy artwork, but the creator, John K, is still alive and still has the skills of a heavy cartoon master. Below is what I imagine might have happened if they’d gone the with the K. Continue reading »

The Greatest Posters on Earth

Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey. The Greatest Show on Earth. Al G. Kelly and Miller Bros. 2nd Largest Circus. These are the dirt and mud spawning beds of some of the most fantastic poster design in the history of the world. I’m drawing a line in the sand here, a circus line. One that clowns honk their lives on. Lions and tigers, trapeze artists, acrobats, and everything else they could fit inside three rings and a whole mess of tent. This is a poster collection consisting of the Princeton University collection of American Circus posters PLUS a whole mess of additional posters as wrangled up from collections across the internet, including of course the US Library of Congress – our friends! Fabulous Foods for Fashion

All good things must fade away. Or rot. That’s why you’ve got to get out there and photograph them. So everyone can hoard them! In this case, it’s about food. How could a person possibly wear a helmet made of cauliflower? This is a question that everyone should be asking themselves, especially if they’re in the fashion industry, as true fruits, vegetables, and dead animals, are really pretty! And should, by all means, be worn as jewelry. That’s what designer / photographer Fulvio Bonavia thought, and thinks, and thusly made happen. This set of photos is called “A Matter of Taste.” Continue reading »

You Want Some, Fool?

Hello world, have you been to London? In London, Adidas has several stores, one of which is there just a bunch of boxes with shoes in them, showing some of the more fantastic collaborations and celebrations the shoe co has done. 365 Stormtrooper Situations

Behold the world of people taking photos of Star Wars Stormtroopers as if they’d found themselves in a giant world where nothing made sense! This idea sprung up in the minds of folks at Flicker probably a bunch of years ago, since then there’ve been hundreds of these photos taken by more than likely hundreds of different aspiring photographers. So what do you do if you want to stand out in that particular group? You get a radical concept, like taking these sorts of photos once a day for an entire year. That’s exactly what mister Stéfan Le Dû did, and not only did he keep it up the entire year, he held on to some excellent craftsmanship through the whole process as well. Continue reading »

Beer Knits for Noone

A little under a year ago was the last time I or we wrote anything about the artist / designer / wild animal known as AJ Fosik. Well I’m here to tell you: AJ Fosik rain in blood wasn’t over. It isn’t done. Last time you saw AJ Fosik there were mass amounts of beasts made in bright colors of painted wood over at White Walls. This time there are no walls. There are only bodies covered in what I can only describe as the most kitschtastic sweaters ever knitted. Each of them represents it’s own classic brand of beer. What a collection. Continue reading »

Headphones wik Accouterment

Here we are with four of the most fantastic headphones to ever peep the light of music. They’re made by the CandyLab Limited group, known in the advertising world for their top-class 3D rendering, animation, and illustration. Each of the phones you see in this post is for a campaign working for Nokia telephones, but the earpieces themselves work wonders for your eyeballs on their own. The set you see above is based on Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Utterly fantastic realities created by hands in the real. Continue reading »

Inappropriate Golden Books

Let me begin this post be suggesting that perhaps you were a child once. Let’s just go on that assumption. When you were a child, did you read books? I’ll go ahead and say yes. When you were a child, did you happen upon Golden Books? Probably you did. I’ll tell you someone else who had some Golden Books, illustrator designer Josh Cooley. He is a nerd, a movie fanatic, and a fantastic draw-er. He’s taken the time to mash up two utterly disparate items for the enjoyment of all: Golden Books for kids, and a collection of movie stills that couldn’t possibly be more inappropriate for that same group of kids. Check it out! Continue reading »

Grids Lines and Cardboards

Here’s an installation artist by the name of Clemens Behr who specializes in wildness. Lines and grids everywhere, red and black and silver, all of it on cardboard and tape. So it’s not the most expensive to execute! And best ever, he’s sponsored (at least in this newest exhibition) by Montana Spray Paint for all that color! This newest exhibition is a solo show by the name of “Black and White Everything (And Me)” and it’s taken place at the ROJO®artspace in Barcelona. It’s nearly finished now, so we can show you pics! Bigtime Clickers

Here’s a dude that’s gotten right into the right business. The business of having famous people trust you enough to take their photo. Or at least having people of some famous rapport have their agents trust you enough to have their client under your lens. Mister Patrick Hoelck has that power. He is a photographer and as long at he holds that trust, he’ll be making the bank. That trust doesn’t come just from knowing people who know people however, you’ve got to have more. Like, you know, skills, and such. Continue reading »

Anybody Mario!

Holy crap! The generosity of the dude behind Exploding Rabbit is endless. Simply endless! Exploding rabbit is a new production… guy… who makes online video games and the like. Each of them has their own moves, power ups, and reactions to gameplay. A MUST PLAY.
