If you know anything about television, you know that Conan O’Brien has been on television from 1993 till 2009 with a relatively popular show called Late Night, then a slightly less well known show called The Tonight Show for a faithful few episodes before he parted ways with the National Broadcasting Company in 2010. Now he’s got a show called “Conan” where, as he puts it, he’s a lot less likely to get replaced since the show’s title is also his name. Conan seems to me to be a really nice guy, and judging solely by the numbers of people who watched his first show under the “Conan” title, lots of other people seems to think he’s a really nice guy too, one who should definitely, definitely keep doing a show with a masturbating bear in it forever and ever and ever amen.

Now this isn’t an editorial, or a column, or an opinion piece the way you might expect one of those things to pan out. It’s just a little reminder that when a person like Conan embraces the audience of friends he’s gathered himself in the manner that he gathered them, great things can happen. Use both the image above (created by twitter user YiyingLu,) and the number 4.1 million to comfort yourself when you think Conan might someday fade into the mist.

Master of oddities Michael Gaughan had an amazing idea. He said to himself, “self, you know that movie Spinal Tap and how in the movie they never produce the original artwork for the album Smell the Glove? You should have an art show about that.” And thus he initiated it. To be held at the relatively new (1 or 2 shows deep so far, max) CO Exhibitions gallery in NE Minneapolis.* This show is to be known as the “Smell The Glove” show and is completely open for submissions. That’s hot. That’s amazing. There’s going to be so many submissions that it’ll be a stench of glove by the time the doors open.

*This location is literally one floor above Burlesque of North America and First Ammendment art gallery. Read these words written by Mike of Burlesque Design:

The actual show is going to have a screening of Spinal Tap, a Spinal Tap cover band performing, and will have surprises! I hope the surprises include asparagus like the last CO show, I saw they had some in the pics from the show.

NOTE: Michael Gaughan graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the same place I graduated from. You know what that means? It means he rocks, and it’s basically like we’ve go the same blood. But he has more rock and roll in his soul. I don’t go around saying that about just anybody.

DOUBLE NOTE: One of the greatest things MG has ever done is make a band with his sister, a band which you may have heard of: “Brother and Sister.” I once saw them perform at the Minneapolis College of Art and design with a candy guitar – during the set, MG asked people to come up to the stage and lick the guitar as he played it. The entire situation was magnificent. If that’s any indication of what’s to come, expect greatness. The kind of greatness that only comes around every once in a while. Believe that.

The hairs are my favorites but I like also how the leaves are sometimes the hairs too. I like the hairs most, but the leaves too are excellent. And I’m always a fan of when the negative numbers shine through for real.

In today’s episode, we’ve got “Sweet Hair,” an event which takes place at the all-posterish Minneapolis art hot spot Art Minion. This particular amalgamation of paper and ink is tossed in support of Locks of Love. Ten percent of all profit made from these hair posters goes toward just such a voluminous cause. The Sweet Hair Poster Show kicks off this summer as 37 Minneapolis based artists come together for the sweetest, hairiest event of the year. All prints are hair-inspired, handmade and created just for this one-time-only event. Not only will some of Minneapolis’ premier poster artists be showcased here, but thanks to Mezzanine Salon, hair will actually be cut and styled during the show’s opening reception. Sweet Hair opens on Saturday, June 13th from 7-10pm at the Art Minion Gallery, nestled away in North East Minneapolis overlooking the Mississippi River. This exhibition is free and open to the public. DJ Rambo Salinas and DJ Talk Radio will be spinning music all evening. Artwork purchased the night of the show will be accompanied with a discount to Frame Ups Custom Framing. The show will be up for one month following the opening reception. 10% of poster sales and ALL pony tails collected for Sweet Hair will be given to Locks of Love.
