Sassy sassy sassy! Here’s a collection, straight from that unstoppable spraypaint fiend, your favorite and mine, Bansy. He’s taken to the streets of USA, mostly just for fun I’d hope, but probably in promotion of his film “Exit Through the Gift Shop.” It just showed at the Lagoon in Minneapolis but I completely missed it. Lemme know if it’s any good. Above and below you’ll experience slap-happy loveliness sprayed all over the walls over the past few weeks.

Smells good.

Each of these works is done with simple canned-paint and spraypaint cans, I’m sure you’ll see the skill inside each and every one. It’s almost as if Banksy has events like a movie release so he can tie it to the paint. Welcome to the modern world of art. You may not start from scratch. Please locate two pieces of material before proceeding to step 2.

Illustrator/designer Scott Teplin outta New York City has a set of pictures he drew that you’re about to see. Called “Crashes : Graphite” and full of what you might expect given the nature of this description and the picture above. Crashes galore! And all in glorious white and gray tones. Experience the fabulousness of the detail, and don’t worry, there’s no human body parts in there.

Each of these 17 pictures is done strictly in pencil on fine white paper. If you look hard enough at your local bookstore, you might soon be seeing Teplin’s works hit the shelves. Posters, books, and whathaveyou. All of that fine stuff showing the extent of his illustrious career in illustration.

These photos are technically not animal parts inside-out, but animals with their insides… out. They’re all taken by one Nazif Topçuoğlu who is one splendid and spectacular photographer if I do say so myself. These photos fit perfectly into his artist statement, in which he searches for images that remind the viewer of an unclear past. In my mind, I’m hoping he’s a slaughterhouse attendant as a child.

The underlying thread in my work is a constant preoccupation with time, memory and loss. I worry about the transience of people and things in general, and try to reconstruct unclear and imperfect images of an idealized past. Such an attempt inevitably requires the ability to recapture past, hence my constant art-historical references to classic paintings and photographs as well as to authors such as Proust and Thomas Mann. Hence I have no problems with my images becoming visually seductive in the process.

Another and more specific aspect of the recent Readers, is its pre-occupation with the contradicting positions of women in Turkey. When employing the representations of youth as imagery, one has to deal with the issues of gender roles and male gaze. In these photographs, unlike the more common examples, a respectful stance towards the female has been taken. The subjectification of the female youth as a gender-free ideal, inevitably involves her intelligence, beauty, energy, and struggle as the major concerns of this work

I do photography because… I need to produce the images which are provocative but not exploitative that I would enjoy looking at.

There are two sets here: COLOUR OFFAL and BLACK AND WHITE OFFAL – I’m sure with your super eyeball brains and such, you’ll be able to tell the difference between the two. Color is color, and so on.

Not paint on mushrooms, paint on mushroom. This photo is part of a brief project that goes by the name “Sea Creatures,” made by designer Paul Fuog during a post held at Stefan Sagmeister’s Experimental Outcamp. That’s a load of words. Paint on objects. Just a blob. Extremely clean. That’s what we’re dealing with here. Super splendid!

This small photographic series was developed during Paul’s posting at Stefan Sagmeister’s Experimental Outcamp in Ubud, Indonesia. The series explores the use of food in design.

Sagmeister’s Experimental Outcamp was one of the very few sabbaticals that ultra-designer Stefan Sagmeister will ever have taken. Before this one, Sag had only taken one, and after this one, there will only be two more (supposing he doesn’t design time travel or something like that.) The choices for who works with him on these sabbaticals are made logically, but those chosen might do well to still count their lucky stars.

Paul Fuog got in on all skill.

These photos were found on several sites having just posted within the past month with no source or credit to the artist (so they ain’t gettin no link from me, either!) Here at the office, we’re mostly into living nature, like flowers and kitties and bunnies and such, but the occasional dead rat has been known to pass past our doorstep.

Here’s the new book cover for Sarah Palin’s sort of autobiography? Or whatever it is. I like the elephant and the bones the most. This cover was designed by A Tiny City Printing Press for Sarah Palin and Todd, who has retired from his job because he saw this cover and decided it was so good that he’d never harvest oil so good ever again. Goodness!

While we might have expected Palin to choose a bold and unadorned font like Impact (or perhaps Comic Sans), Palin’s team went instead with Linotype Didot. According to Typedia, the Didot family of fonts comes from the Didot family, who lived and worked in Paris in the 19th Century. While Pierre Didot published books and prints, Firmin Didot designed the typefaces. Linotype Didot was added much later, drawn by Adrian Frutiger in 1991. Jason Freeny is a 3D artist. That’s weird. I am totally down with what he’s up to, though, definitely digging what is going on here. He’s a self-proclaimed Artist / Illustrator / Crazy Person, and it shows! This post details a bunch of his newest series of illustrations, that being the insides of those particular toys and toy-like objects we usually only concern ourselves with the outside of. Because why would there be anything in there? I’ll tell you why : because that would be awesome.

Jason Freeny’s company name is Moist Productions. See him if you need to get… some illustrations and such! Not so much if you need to get moist. You’re gonna need to see someone else about that.

Each of these pictures is “digital illustration” which means there’s basically no “original” that you can collect, but you can definitely own these lovely things in physical form ala the Moist Productions online store. As if I was going to link to an offline store, ay?

Oh my goodness the artwork of grotesque artist Trevor Brown is quite the artwork indeed. His collection features gorgeous paintings of the children’s toys, Japanese lolita culture, and lots of skulls and such! What you see above you is a 3D culmination of all that, in the form of a rounded-tip spiked pacifier necklace pendant. Below you’ll see some paintings, LPs, and book covers he’s been commissioned to do.

Beware the living dead baby dolls!

If you take a look below I’m sure you’ll notice the lack of other 3D items beside the pacifier. Trevor Brown is almost 100% a 2D artist. He uses paints. But here with this sculpture he had the opportunity to create a 3D item. You graphic designers take a page out of TB’s book: make a few 3D items, get that stuff published by writers that cover more than just graphics, and join a much larger design conversation.

I bet you didn’t know that the average Wii controller has all kinds of guts like this. Guts. I’ve seen a lot of guts projects lately. That one with the lego guy turning around and around, those KAWS Dissected Companions from a few years ago. It’s no longer a joke! But that’s ok, that’s not what this is about anyway. It’s about how physical therapists are using the Wii to help their patients gain muscle strength by playing games! Yay Nintendo!

The designer behind this lovely image and poster is Angela Moramarco. She’s won heck-of-awards. You’d better listen. This thing is for an imaginary site http://anatowii.com/ which will potentially tell the winning physical points in using the Wii.

Discover the magic!

This is the first day of the rest of your life! It is you, future person, who has the future in your futuristic, super dirty hands! This is a poster from a brilliant bloke from Brooklyn named Roland Tiangco. He, Tiangco, and a kind hand model, Yoshie Hozumi, present this fabulous interactive poster. And I don’t mean interactive computer simulation. I mean getting your hands dirty with real ink and dirt! Physical interactivity! The nerve!

*NOTE Roland Tiangco is not a bloke in the sense that he is from England, instead I only used the word bloke because that’s generally right, and it rhymed there in the sentence.

A poster the recipient completes by revealing spot-varnished type with hands made dirty by handling the poster. This is the first of a series of posters.

I think photography just keeps getting better and better over the years, and I’ll tell you why! Because strange things happen in photographs now. Very strange things. In these photographs there’s a bunch of piles of things. Things like fish, shoes, and people. Piles and piles of people! That’s what you get when you collect too many people in your closet and don’t get rid of your extras on ebay.

Oh man do these people have a lot of things in their storage containers and closets and houses and whatnot. This is a personal project of a fabulously talented photographer by the name of Romain Laurent, straight outta Paris.

The picture with the record albums bothers me because everyone know you don’t stack your albums vertically, they’ll totally tip over into a giant pile if you do. This post is a part of the World Famous Design Junkies Outer Space category, because it’s out there.

Sometimes you see a project which seems taylor-made for an audience. This one is for you, World Famous Design Junkies. This is the “On Cheeseburgers” photography project by one, William Hundley. In it, he’s been extremely careful to set a perfect collection of precision-found objects on some perfect cheeseburgers. Really grade-A.

What kind of person does it take to set a bunch of objects on some cheeseburgers, light the scene nicely, and take a pic? What would his mother say? I’ve got to say the one that I find the most pleasing is the “Chihuahua on Cheeseburgers.” Just lovely. Very calming.

Twenty six thousand stones, that’s diamonds and gold, an Ice-Cream Sneaker, pink Johnson and Johnson baby lotion, a Magnolia Bakery cupcake, Heinz Ketchup, a can of Pepsi, a condom, and a bag of Doritos. All inside the mouth of the Takashi Murakami character Mr. Dob – high on mushrooms (seriously that’s part of the concept.) That’s the collaborative effort, in simple terms, between artists and entrepreneurs Virginia born Pharrell Williams and Tokyo born Takashi Murakami. This year’s Art Basel (AB #40, 2009) played host to this wild creation which just sold for more than $2 Million Dollars.

The artwork titled “Simple Things” was manufactured by Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd in collaboration with Jacob & Co. (aka Jacob the Jeweler). It was started some time early 2007, taking two years to come to complete fruition. Below you will see the piece being exhibited at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin booth at Art Basel 2009.

Welcome to the big teeth and big eyes of Chris Ryniak‘s monster farm. The fantastic thing about this collection is that it’s both paintings, images that are flat, and images that have come alive through action figuresque sculptures and wall-heads. All are frightening, all could be sitting in the bedroom of the baby of a hip parent as easily as they could belong to a blacklight-only basement dweller.

My dad used to know a basement dweller. He used only blacklights, had no windows, and had all his walls painted black. Weirdo. Black Sabbath.

Hello pals and welcome back to the adventures of every day graphic designers. Today a mister Justin McKinley and sir Nick Bachman, who incidentally seems to have just started tweeting to tell everyone about his longing moment with some porcelain dolls – were out fishing. Long story short, mister Backman got a Daredevil fishhook stuck in his finger OUCH – so they went to the hospital and found some excellent signage. Wee!

Holy jeepers look at that skeleton. This post is about the image more than the show, but the show looks neat too, so feel free to go to it. I found the hell out of this skeletor through the updates of @cerebralballzy. Take note of the baseball cap that the skeleman is wearing: it’s a purely scary blue and yellow custom MIDNIGHT cap with a Mishka NYC logo on it – the bear! Blurn’ the lines.

i’m from ohio, was born in 1973, and now live with my wife and child in parkersburg, west virginia. i developed film for the first time when i was seven. i hit my twenties and stopped taking photographs for about ten years but returned to the lens in 2006 when my son was born. since then i have simply tried to photograph what i see.
