It’s a toy that teaches kids to become font designers! Look out world, soon there’ll be an army of extremely detail oriented youngsters on the horizon. This thing right here is called Letterboxes. It’s a simple cardboard form with printing on it that folds up to a box with black shapes that when combined in the right (or wrong!) combinations, create letters and numbers. It’s got a companion font with it, too!

And not just in outer space. Everything from the godliness of creating outlines for a folded box to the divinity of the golden mean. Made gorgeous. Made poster form in the style Paukner sees fit.

This is a bunch of photos from inside the airport in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They’re snapped by me, author designer Chris Burns, as the first mission on this amazing fact-finding mission in Albany, NY, and the surrounding areas. These photos are taken with the most extremely specific mission in mind: photograph a photo every 5 seconds or less.

So it seems that there’s going to be a book coming out soon that’s a photo recounting of the Glow In The Dark tour that happened a year and a few months ago. The tour featured Kanye West as the headliner, Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco, and N.E.R.D.. It was pretty neat. People at the concert were told basically that if they took photos they’d be shot with lazers and chopped into bits. But we did it anyway. Here’s a bunch of lovely colors for you.

Not the kind of star map that you use to find Steve Buscemi’s house, but the kind you use to find the “Artie” constellation. As the city of Paris is often or at least sometimes called La ville lumière aka City of Lights, the wonderful design mind that goes by the name Clémentine Tantet decided to see it in space. And what’s more identifying of a city than it’s train map? So thus is this: a map of the Paris Underground made into a map of the stars!

A mister David Lasnier, designer and 3D pro, has replicated Marseille. In an extended stay and discovery mission on the streets of France’s largest commercial port, Lasnier exercised his skill on the ol’ 3D rendering engine to replicate iconic items he found all around the city. What a fabulous set of virtual items he’s conjured up!

Noone can resist that title. This is a project by one Emanuele Nardoni, a photographer from Milan who likes to hit the road and the airplane and basically go on the photo outings that you WISH you could go on. This one’s set in Tokyo and I believe in the surrounding areas, and it is titled, yes, “Made in Japan.” And it’s lovely. Just fantastical. My favorite photo is the one above “This is My Art” because although it’s sort of totally self-referential, juvenile, silly, goofy, I think it’s right on cue. I wonder if it’s tile, sticker, wood, or what?

Brand flippin new works from the design / art collective FAILE. The works contained in this post are dubbed (by Faile) to be the Wood Paintings set and will be formally introduced next week at FIAC art fair in Paris with Perry Rubenstein Gallery. Faile’s going to be represented by Perry Rubenstein in the United States from now on, their first show to be some time mid-2010. This set of fine art pieces is the first bunch to be produced and shown in corroboration with PRG. And they’re HUGE.

Are you kidding me? Lazer etched, aged leather “print.” What a lovely process! I’d mention that I don’t agree with the use of the hide of an animal for a bit of design/artwork, but I just ate some steak tacos, and my blood is too thick for Florida, where these are from. Another neat thing about this print is that it’s designed by a design collective: YASLY, which is comprised of musicians, leather craftsman, letterpress artisans, house wives and carpenters. Heck yah! I’m a carpenter too, nice to meet you!
