The Innocuous Hello Kitty Chainsaw

Hello 2 U, miss kitty. I see you’ve got quite the worn from wear chainsaw there. How nice it is! The more you use it, the prettier I bet you thought it would not get, but nay! The character adds the interest. In this project from a lady artist who goes only by the title “Shelly”, the paint and kitty accents were added by hand, then worn down by hand as well.

Fuzzy Ball and Chain

What do you know, marriage isn’t so bad! Apparently now you get a nice shag carpet / fuzzy covered ball instead of the normal 1 ton! That’s what I like to hear. This and several other items also included in this post are sculptures put together and constructed by designer Karin Nilsson who goes under the “Crafts” banner at HDK design school in Göteborg, Sweden. Love the deconstructions!

More Glowing In The Dark

So it seems that there’s going to be a book coming out soon that’s a photo recounting of the Glow In The Dark tour that happened a year and a few months ago. The tour featured Kanye West as the headliner, Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco, and N.E.R.D.. It was pretty neat. People at the concert were told basically that if they took photos they’d be shot with lazers and chopped into bits. But we did it anyway. Here’s a bunch of lovely colors for you.

Sometimes you need to design a mark for a Finnish Heavy Metal band. Well you know that the greatest heavy metal logos of all time look basically the same. Metallica and Judas Priest, Slayer and AC/DC, and of course KISS. Look at them all. All basically totally the same. Sharp and shiny, a 3D version and a flatfaced version. Ok so look at that photo there, above these words. That photo is pretty good. It’s a pretty cool thing to look at on it’s own. Those colors on the lady’s top are really nice. Like they’re totally getting ready to pop right off, right? Maybe. Designer Adam Dedman’s vision for the photo took a fabulous literal interpretation of just that. Jumpin up. You must look at it.

Real Mexican Superheroes

HERO: a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Typically caped. I just made that up. I stole a little bit from the Apple dictionary. But it’s all true. What we’ve got here is a project on heroes by photographer Dulce Pinzon. This project projects the fantastic nature of the Mexican Immigrant Worker as a true hero. What makes the project spectacular is the costumes (duh), but more importantly: attached to each photo of a hero is their occupation and the amount of money they send back home each week (from the USA to their family in Mexico.)

Jay-Z, Eminem Now Part of the Shepard Fairey Collection

This duo of images is officially part of the “Hero” craze, they being the cover of a “collectable” case for DJ Hero’s Renegade Edition. Eminem and Jay-Z have tracks on this edition of the game, and they hired Studio Number One to whip up a lovely image of these two legendary music making faces. No word on if the images will be produced anywhere else but on the DJ Hero ephemera, but DO expect them to maybe make an appearance in some fine art in the future, as Shepard Fairey like to explore all options with images once he’s done the illustration work. Colors, mediums, rubyliths, everything and anything.
