Apple Retro Light Modification

Generally, and I mean most of the time, it’s basically OK to spit on cosmetic modifications to the cases of laptop computers. This one though, made by mah man MONK in Japan. It’s a simple change, really: just an hour of careful, careful taking apart of the cover, and a little bit of transparent rainbow paper. Don’t try this at home, though, unless you happen to expect to never have a problem with your computer again – a change like this voids your warrantee and any other safety guarantee you’ve got, all for a little cuteness!

Another sentence in the story of our modern custom culture. Am I mistaken in thinking this all started heavily with the wave of Hollywood remakes that started some ten years ago? Of course it goes back to before the Italian Renaissance, knowing pictures of famous people sell quicker than pictures of nobodies, but Andy Warhol? Monk didn’t choose to light his Apple up with a swirl, some checkers, or a face, no, he added the classic rainbow from the original Apple logo. It’s the re-branding syndrome.

And it’s cute!
