Der Spiegel Stop Cover by eBoy

Oh ja! I love eBoy so much! They (eBoy group) have made my favorite conglomeration of pixel-made world scenes and vehicles and people and everything ever! Their pixels are absolutely lovely. This week, they’ve been commissioned to do the cover of DER SPIEGEL magazine. The commission includes a giant stop sign being constructed amidst internet signs of the most popular and wild sites for the headline “warum das internet neue regeln braucht” aka “why the internet needs new rules.”

Look at that thing! It’s very similar in content to another quite-recent work from eBoy for the Maker Faire. Internets signs galore! In this new one, see if you can find the following: flickr, skype, Google, YouTube, The Pirate Bay (exploding), Sex.com (retro!), del.icio.us, YouPorn, Yahoo, and look right below the S on the STOP sign, that’s the Spiegel bird, so cute!

Also watch out for nude pixel people!

The bird below the letter S is not the Spiegel bird but rather the ‘Bundesadler’. That eagle is a national emblem of Germany.

  • Chris Burns

Oh I did not know that! Thank you for the fabulous info!

  • brother doc

Well, stoertebeker, you and Chris are both right in a way, because the cover of Der Spiegel does carry the Bundesadler on every issue. Chris, it was decent of you to acknowledge your ignorance but really, you should know that about the bird. Before the Euro it was on many of the German coins. Most famously of course it was on a lot of Nazi insignia but it has been stylized and updated since then…. Really do like the cover!

  • Chris Burns

    uhhhhhhhhh chill out.

  • stoertebeker

Hard to tell who’s being ignorant here. The eagle is still to be found on the german euro coins ;)

Yes I remembered that (I’ve got a bunch of old (and newish) German tender, I was in England / Italy / France around 2003 and some had circulated there. When I made the post I remembered that it was on Der Spiegel, but it’d completely slipped my mind that it was also a pretty important mark in the whole of German history.
