Where new design goes to blossom and lost design goes to live again.

commanding

Codes from the most basic depths (oxymoron) of the computer keyboard communications. Made into street interactivity. This project is called “Commanding” -it’s an artist/educator/student cooperative that’s got high hopes of creating a dialogue with the changing environments in which it’s tenants live. Save, delete, copy. See a whole collection of real-world applications above and below.

Words from the group:

Commanding is a group of artists/educators/students at NYU who hope to create a dialogue about the changing environments in which we live. We post signs based on simple computer commands that relate directly to the gentrification, development and hopefully preservation of the neighborhoods that we interact with everyday

This project is part of an interesting trend in which school project participators attempt to communicate with their environment through symbols that open peoples eyes but don’t directly connect back to their source. The symbols are there, but unlike an advertisement, there’s no address or tiny copy that shows how to get in contact with the poster’s creators. An intriguing development.

this is really dumb and creates no awareness whatsoever

I’m pretty sure that Apple-Z is the undo command, not delete, which is apple backspace.

Amanda, I disagree. I’m sitting here in California sipping coffee, and suddenly I was aware of this project. I think the concept is okay, the execution needs some refining, but the message is pretty clear. Copy / Save / Undo – Not too difficult. I think you might be a little jealous because your ex-boyfriend is involved in something you’re not, and it’s getting scooped by some cool design websites while you just sit and make negative comments. But what do I know?

Step away from the explanation on this page and look at the project for what it is: stupid/pointless. And why is the text on the stickers vertical?

Pretty damn bad. In every way.
