Berlin’s own “Muenzstr. 19″ gallery is playing host to a brand spankin new 20 year retrospective / perspective show of the works of artist/former graffiti artist Futura 2000. The show’s name: Odyssey 2. What we’ve got below is a lovely look at a bunch of paintings in the show, an idea of the prices and sizes of pieces, perhaps a beer or two, and definitely a totally amazing good time had by all!
Odyssey Two by Futura
Muenzstr. 19
BerlinExhibition opens on September 24th and runs until September 27th.
The paintings in this post are between 40.5 cm and 165 cm on a single side, between 3350 EUR and 21,500 EUR, depending mostly on the size it seems. The red painting you see above is called “ELLIPTICAL ORBITAL (Original)”, and was made in 2009 with acrylic, spray paint, and ink on canvas, is 152 cm x 152 cm, and as you can imagine, is on the higher end of the wide-ranging price scale.
You’ll see, if you feel so inclined to take a journey through the life and career of the artist, a collection of similar sorts of paintings, or so says the naked eye. A person who’s seen every Futura 2000 painting can name certain elements that appear in 90%. The difference between Futura and 95% of the rest of the artists in the world is: design sensibility. Thicks and thins, markmaking creating perfect, iconic pieces, spraypaint perfection.

Objects in this show include small drawings to giant murals, pricing tops out at several hundred thousand bucks a painting. UPDATE: there’s now another glance of the show direct FROM the show just a click away at High Snobiety. What you see below is different from that, same show, different pieces. All paintings, all the time.
This post is without a doubt a World Famous Design Junkies outer space category, for the vast amount of stars you will see. ALSO check it out, if you’re interested in purchasing any of the paintings you see here or anywhere, contact the gallery through the Odyssey Two webpage and cross your fingers AND your toes for luck getting a reply!
