Oh shit, wait, you mean Los Angeles doesn’t have ENOUGH water? You mean they’re running out? Oh that just sucks. Looks like they’ll be needing a CalArts Design Team to help them cut their way out of this sticky drought-su-ation. Very dry. “Rethink” your green.

Check out this conceptual campaign that one particular group of CalArts students are working on in order to turn Los Angeles and the surrounding area into a self-sufficient city (in the way of water, anyway.) Their primary concern is with the so-called “traditional lawns” that people insist on. These are lush, heavy-green yards that couldn’t possibly survive in the CA climate without constant human attention (and yes, lots of water.) What they suggest instead is the fantastic array of natural-born flowers and other garden plants that are adept at living in the harsh sun with little water.
