Emek is a man. Emek is a poster man. Emek is an illustrator, graphic designer, squeegee pulling, printmaking, sort of dude, and he works with and on amazing projects from here to Badu. Below lets devour the magical mysteries that are the Emek rock and roll poster extravaganza, since that is his claim to fame, and let us reflect on the majesty of the process, from original illustration and hand-written letters to screen to hand-pulled inks.
Emek makes big posters. I mean gigantic. I don’t mean physically large, I mean more like, oh, filled with majesty. He explores not only the depths of his pallet, but his pallet as well. He strives as much to print new as he does to print well. He’s done many methods, and he’s done many mans. The alphabet of posters, the alphabet of artists.
A moment of his time, from his manifesto:
“I appreciate the flexibility this medium allows me because the bands generally give me total creative freedom (as long as I include the show info). I am allowed to dip into the recesses of my own imagination and see what spills out onto the page. I am my own art director so I can experiment with different concepts and styles to keep things fresh. Today’s disposable culture paves the way for tomorrow’s collectible nostalgia… I’m just trying to keep it interesting.”
And you know where he dances on that.
Come, click away with me into this ocean of ink. Come, click away with me, though this sea of pixels. Come, click away with me, and glue your eyes to this.
