type in foamcore

What a terrible title. This project is all about letters. Gigantic typesetting letters made out of everyone’s favorite material: foamcore. What foamcoar is really depends on who you are, what you’re using it for: for the average citizen, it’s just a big hunk of really dense foam. You can write your name in it! For an artist, it’s better than a tuber! You can carve your life away, and at only $10 a giant block! Bigger than your whole body!

So artist / designer Balázs Szabó did just that. Made some gigantic letters.

What’s better than setting letters in type? Setting letters in GIANT type, of course. Every good designer wants their work to be bigger than their head someday, bigger than those 11×17″ sheets they steal from the service bureau. So Szabó took matters into the hands and got to carving. Then what was created was more than meets the eye! A gigantic roll of paper descending from the sky, printed on it the letters made!

How fancy!

Also pictured below are some clay(?) letters also carved by Szabó. For more works like this you’d better go ahead on over to Szabó‘s portfolio.
